About Sam Manhave
I’ve always loved making and understanding things. Since I was little, I was the one at home taking things apart just to see how they worked. That curiosity eventually led me to study Mechanical Engineering (DUT GMP in Alençon, France), where I learned about materials and precision manufacturing. But while engineering showed me how to make things for others, I realized I wanted to create in a way that reflected my own ideas. That’s what brought me to The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where I’m now studying Industrial Design Engineering.
I’d describe myself as hands-on, curious and spontaneous, someone who learns best through trial and error. I like exploring ideas by sketching, prototyping and experimenting. I also tend to take the “scenic route” as it’s not always the fastest way but it’s usually where the most interesting discoveries happen.
For me, design is about figuring something out, testing that something and turning that something into something people can actually use. I like making concepts real, whether that’s through a quick prototype or a system that solves a bigger problem.
Outside of my projects, I’m a bit of a jack of all trades. From mechanics and metalworking to sports and content creation, I enjoy diving into different worlds and figuring things out by trying. These passions feed back into my design work, giving me fresh perspectives and practical skills I carry into every project.
In the end, design isn’t just about making products as it’s more about shaping an experiences, solving problems and always explore possibilities with an open mindset.
